Our traditional outlook at the Pune Construction Engineering Research Foundation (PCERF) always compels us to value the past. We firmly believe that one must appreciate the roots to nurture the tree. The Journey of Constro began in 1985, a time when the construction landscape in India was rapidly evolving. The successful conduct of the 1st Edition of Constro Exhibition in 1985 was not merely an event; it was a strong, foundational statement of intent. It solidified our commitment to creating a definitive platform for industry professionals, innovators, and thinkers to converge.
Four years later, in 1989, PCERF was already taking a forward-thinking view, contributing to the nation's framework by actively participating in the drafting and presentation of the National Housing Policy in the Parliament. This was a clear indication that Constro was never just about exhibitions; it was about shaping the ecosystem.
Expanding Horizons: A Global View on Traditional Values
Innovation, for us, is about bringing the best of the world to our doorstep while upholding our core values. The mid-nineties marked a pivotal moment when the Constro platform truly went international. 1995 saw international companies participating in Constro for the first time, injecting global technologies and standards into the Indian construction narrative. This strategic move was instrumental in empowering our domestic players to think outside the box and prepare for a global scale.
We continued to take a leading role in intellectual development. The 2003 International Conference on Development Strategies for the Construction Industry provided a critical forum for high-level dialogue, ensuring that our industry remained agile and responsive to changing needs. And in a practical display of innovative thinking rooted in sustainable tradition, the symposia organised in 2010 on BAMBOO in Building Construction demonstrated our commitment to green solutions long before they became a widespread trend.
Future-Proofing the Legacy: A Continuous Ascent
The latter half of this remarkable journey has been defined by scaling up and embracing digital transformation. We initiated the Padmashri BG Shirke Vidyarthi Award in 2016, investing in the talent that will carry this Constro Legacy forward.
In 2020, we innovated by introducing the Concept of the Landscape and Outdoor Living Pavilion, recognising that the building is only one part of the living experience. Most recently, our commitment to future-proofing the platform has been evident in our record-breaking attendance and digital mastery:
- 2023 marked our biggest exhibition till date with the first virtual EXPO, proving our ability to adapt and expand reach.
- 2024 saw our largest-ever exhibition featuring an advanced virtual expo alongside an array of innovative digital offerings.
